Cliffs represent an apex or crossroads in our lives, a point where we stand on the edge of new opportunities, career climbs, or an awareness/perspective of ourselves or situations. To dream of falling off that cliff expresses subconscious fears that we will not succeed in our quest, that we are afraid to fail at what lies ahead.

Dreams that take us back to school days are extremely common. This likely indicates you feel you are being "tested" or scrutinized in some aspect of your life right now, and you worry you will not measure up. You may feel you weren't properly prepared for the challenges you are facing, but are being unfairly judged for it. Or, perhaps you feel you should have been better prepared, and would have better opportunities at present if you were to have done so.

This seems like a very disturbing and violent dream, what with the death of an innocent child, but there is some mercifully simple symbolism behind it.

Vans represent things we "haul" in life, the load we bear as we move along on our path. Children, regardless of sex, represent childlike aspects of ourselves, or else childhood memories or traits. Death often does not mean literal death, but losing a part of ourselves, changes or transitions.

Here, perhaps life's burdens have struck down some of the childlike fun you experienced in the past. In this dream there was both a boy and one girl, and it is the boy who is killed. Perhaps you perceive the more active rough/tumble/athletic aspect of your youth has been lost. Maybe you were a tomboy or always "one of the guys," and this has been compromised. A woman driving the burdens of life smashes this aspect, as the demands of womanhood robs you of the pleasure of a carefree, "one of the guys" existence. The girl is left behind, but bereaved by the loss. Another interpretation of this is that you may feel opportunities are denied you because of your gender.

At one time or another most of us have probably had a celebrity do a cameo in our dreams, but have you ever dreamed you were the famous celebrity? (White rapids optional!)

This often represents a high, lofty goal that perhaps we think we cannot achieve, or else our status and reputation in our social setting. Back in dream post 13 we learned that water dreams involve our emotions. That you are racing down a roaring river can indicate that you fear getting literally carried off by your emotions, and that this could interfere with your social status or life goals. People are telling you in the dream not to act irresponsibly, a warning from your subconscious to allow a level head to prevail when dealing with issues related to the achievement of your goals and social standing.

No new dreams came in this week, so I thought I'd cover the end-all of laughed about and feared dreams: The "I showed up NAKED!" dream.

Dreams of being naked in some sort of public venue are quite common and no, they don't reveal some hidden desire to join a nudist colony! When you think of clothing, this represents the image we present in public, as well as a layer of protection and a shield of sorts to guard us from exposing our most vulnerable parts. An outside facade that allows us to be respectable and accepted.

Now let's consider losing these things in a dream. We show up to work, school, etc. without attire, meaning we are experiencing fears of being exposed or placed in a vulnerable, embarrassing, or generally awkward position. Your defenses have been breached, and people can "see right through" the shields you normally have in place in social situations.

Of course, this is all assuming the dream is the kind I hear most often, the We-Were-All-Mortified variety. However, I've had (and heard of) variations where we're walking around naked and nobody thinks twice about it. Or maybe YOU don't think twice about it. You might be making too much of something in your life that really doesn't affect others the way you fear it will (or more accurately, how they think of you). If you don't care about being naked in public, it shows a sense of self confidence.

Well, it's been an interesting dream week! If I didn't know better I'd say Halloween was coming, as there have been a number of reported ghost and zombie dreams. Someone else dreamed they were standing on a picnic table that had a shark chained to it! But since I've covered ghost dreams and shark dreams recently, I thought I'd analyze the zombie dream.

"I dreamed of zombie apocalypse. I saw more and more getting infected, and tried to save a group of boy scouts. I kept running and trying to help, but as always the zombies grew in number and kept coming. It seemed useless."

What do you think of when you hear the word "zombie?" They are monotone, programmed beings, shuffling forward on auto pilot with zero emotion. And yeah, they eat brains. In dreams, zombies represent ourselves, and feelings that we're moving through a situation without emotion, going through the motions in life while emotionally detached. And this dream involves children. As I discussed in my sinking ship interpretation, children also represent ourselves, aspects of our own childhood. The dreamer here is male, and is trying to save boy scouts from the attack to come. Perhaps current circumstances are bringing up feelings of helplessness you experienced as a child, or you subconsciously wish you could have done things differently to spare the boy scout "you" life experiences that were less fulfilling than you would have wished.

While this may sound like a cross post suited to my friend Courtney's Haunt Jaunts blog, ghostly dreams are not all that uncommon. Ghosts in dreams indicate parts of our life, personality, or pasts that haunt or frighten us. Memories, things we've tried to forget, possibilities that we'd rather not face, sometimes will pop up as ghostly specters in our dreams.

In this dream, little detail is given, but one taps the dreamer on the shoulder. Coming up from behind. This item from behind, or the past, is trying to get your attention, though you fear it. Perhaps some memories or issues need to resurface and be dealt with. Once you've done so successfully, the ghost will fade away.

Water dreams involve our emotions. In your dream, you are in danger of drowning in overwhelming emotions, yet manage to keep your head above water. That you are saving a child represents aspects of your own childhood, in this case emotions left over from childhood memories that may threaten to flood back in, but from which you've pulled yourself.

Not surprisingly, traveling up a staircase in dreams involves progress on your path, as a person or in reaching desired goals. Here you climb out of the flood, making progress only to find a closed door at the top. Closed doors represent opportunities, new freedoms, attitudes, or feelings that you are barred from, in this case by your own fear to walk through it.

In short, while you have made significant progress along your emotional/spiritual path, at present you may feel stagnant, unable to move further because your own attitudes or fears are barring the way to new possibilities. Let go of past issues that hang on like baggage, and allow yourself the freedom to risk opening the door to a new path.

Teeth falling out/breaking is an extremely common dream, like flying or showing up to class naked. Interestingly, all of these relate in one way or another to feelings of insecurity (or dominance).

Teeth that fall out may well make your dream self feel powerless and unable to accomplish what you set out to do (here, eat). This indicates insecurities about accomplishing things in life. Also, since teeth are also tied to our appearance, this can indicate anxiety over losing ones' looks/attractiveness.

There is a "meatier" interpretation of tooth dreams as well, pun intended. Teeth are used for biting or chewing, and common references in daily life include chewing over problems or make "biting" comments. For some, tooth loss dreams represent feeling at a disadvantage in solving a problem, or in social interactions.

“I dreamed about sharks! I was in the water with a "friend" I've never seen before in real life, and we had to swim for our lives from a pair of sharks. Before long a bunch of other people wound up dumped in the water with us, too. I wound up having to leave the friend behind to swim for it, and felt guilty (though admittedly relieved) when I made it to shore alone. Gak!"

Ah, shark dreams. Great fun...not!

Sharks can have a couple of different meanings. They may represent people in your life who are greedy or manipulative, hurting who they must to get what they want. However, sharks can also represent your own emotions--feelings of hostility or aggressive tendencies. By swimming away and leaving others to the sharks' mercies, you may have subconscious concern over a situation where others took the brunt of an issue where you came out on top. Or perhaps, you worry that YOU were the shark in a situation where you succeeded at the expense of others...whether it was true or not.

In short, sharks represent our own aggression or anger, or that of others directed at us.

Dreaming about work can sometimes mean you're having a lot of stress at--suprise!--WORK, but it can also mean anxiety and issues with a current project. Since you're in college now, perhaps you're under a lot of pressure with project deadlines, papers, etc. Also, dreaming of a past job can indicate that this is a place of familiarity to you, and a subconscious wish to return to a time and place where you had learned to accomplish tasks more readily than the unfamiliar tasks in front of you now. Also, your subconscious may be trying to offer you a hint--perhaps you can apply logic and approaches you used in that former job to aid you in your current position. Best of luck!

“I dreamt it was night, and some strange guy I knew in the dream was acting threatening. The police came and started chasing him off. Instead of waiting I ran the other way--along a deserted dark vacant lot. Two guys in a van drove up. I got scared in the dream, thinking they could throw me in that van and take off. Sure enough, they stopped and jumped out after me. I woke up before much more happened, but I remember thinking what a frying pan/fire scenario it became. What does this mean?"

There are quite a few themes worth exploring in this dream. First, it happens at night. Nighttime in dreams tends to represent things we cannot see clearly, or obstacles that obscure our path. Someone behaving threatening to you in the dream can represent a feeling of being emotionally attacked or bullied. Police have a variety of meanings in dreams. Here they arrive to help you (though wind up chasing the guy rather than arresting him), representing a symbol of authority that may or may not be capable of solving issues hindering you. Instead of waiting around to see, you run off--and running away in dreams indicates an issue you are hoping to avoid. Instead, you run into TWO attackers in a van. Vehicles in dreams represent directions we can head in our lives--and clearly that van was a direction you did NOT care to head. And this time you aren't just running, you're being chased. Being chased involves emotions or situations that disturb you, again that you'd rather avoid.

To put all these together, perhaps you've encountered a relationship or career situation where you felt emotionally or personally attacked, and attempts to correct the issue not only fell short of your hopes, but perhaps lead to some sort of retribution (or you may have fears of retribution). Your subconscious is acknowledging your tendency to try and avoid these scenarios, rather than risk a greater negative outcome.

Baby dreams are common among women, whether or not they are currently in the "baby" phase of their life. A pregnant woman may have numerous dreams about childbirth and what her unborn baby will be like--not a big stretch there to realize the woman is naturally consumed with such thoughts. However, when a woman is pre or post childbearing, or of age but not in a situation where it occupies her thoughts, these dreams take on a different meaning.

Typically, the baby in these instances is either a direct facet of yourself or symbolic of new possibility, breakthrough, or issue coming forth now. The fact that you had a baby girl points more strongly to the child being yourself. Here, you gave birth to a child already several years old. It could be that you are facing issues right now that are awakening subconscious feelings stemming back to that time in your life.

There are a couple of ways to look at this. One, did something of note take place at age four? If so, reactions or feelings back then may be playing into something going on presently. OR, perhaps right now you are seeking or experiencing a renewal of earlier childlike fun and innocence. Either enjoy the "kiddie" fun without guilt, or if you're under a lot of adult pressure, your brain might be telling you to nurture yourself by returning to some simple fun and pleasures.

Recurring dreams can be very frustrating--especially when they involve unsolvable problems like these rather than being whisked off to a magical castle by Prince Charming!

Not surprisingly, telephones in dreams are typically symbols representing our communication. Either you are having trouble communicating in one or more of your close relationships, or this theme could actually be directed at your writing pursuits.

Do these dreams spring up when you're encountering issues with a story you're working on, or during particularly prolific phases in your writing? Your subconscious may be processing self doubts about your writing--that the words that come out won't properly communicate what you're trying to say, or similarly, that they won't "connect" and strike a strong enough chord with the audience.

“I was by a seashore. From time to time giant waves would roll onto the beach and pick me up. Though I was fully clothed, I just nonchalantly ducked under or floated over the waves, but I was worried that the stuff in my purse was getting soaked and ruined. I tried going inside a nearby cement tunnel, but the waves kept coming."

Water in dreams always signifies emotion. Here, tumultuous waves threaten to overtake you, suggesting powerful emotion that would normally carry you away. However, you manage to ride over or duck under the tide.

Purses in dreams are like those in life--they hold our identities (driver's license), power (money), even secrets and dreams. Depending on how a tunnel is shown in a dream, it can represent births and new beginnings/information (emerging from a tunnel, seeing a light at the end of a tunnel), a need for security and assurance (retreating to the womb), or closed-mindedness (dark tunnels). Cement indicates gluing together new ideas.

Combining the above concepts, I'd say you've recently been weathering emotional challenges that normally get the best of you. Perhaps you've been ducking arguments or crying jabs by “mixing” ideas of just going with the flow and retreating when emotions ride too high. On the surface this would sound like someone trying to decide what kind of pet to buy! But underneath lies some compelling symbolism.

Newspapers in a dream mean new information is available regarding a problem. Pay attention to the rest of the dream to get the answer you need. Great! Let's see what else we've got.

First, the cats. Cats in dream life represent feminine energy, creativity, and sexual power. They can also indicate some type of misfortune. If the cats are behaving aggressively or barring your progress, this could indicate female influences in your life that have less than genuine, helpful motives toward you.

Parking lots indicate you are in a place where you need to stop and take a moment to rest between activities. You've got too much going on right now and need a breather.

Puppies refer to our carefree, playful natures or childlike times. They can also indicate friendships. The fact that this puppy can not be seen and is unhappy could refer to feelings that carefree times or friendships are being lost.

To put this all together, it sounds like the dreamer has been facing a lot of challenges in life, ones perhaps being thwarted by other females. This is taking up enough time to interfere with friendships or other carefree pursuits, and causing a lot of stress. “I had a very disturbing dream where I was in a train station. And there were suspicious people so I listened to my gut and I left and next thing you know the train station blew up!"

While it seems very disturbing, dreams like these can be indicative of a much more general issue.

First is the train station itself, which represents a desire to achieve our goals--generally relationship or career goals. The train carries us to these goals. Multiple people in dreams tend to represent our social circle, in this case I'd say probably ones who have ulterior motives that may interfere with your goal achievement. Explosions involve pent up anger that finally boils over, or a destructive shock that interferes with your desires. Here, you got away before the explosion hit, which indicates that you will be able to carry on your path despite the temporary derailment.

Combining these into a theme, I'd say that something recently might have happened, or you are concerned that something will happen, that involves people around you who could pose a threat to the goals you're seeking. But while anger and disappointment threatens to take the day, you rise above and can continue on the path to your goals--even if you need to use a different train station to do it.

There are several symbols in this dream that are worth looking into. First, the idea of a tattoo itself. Tattoos are permanent marks, indelible impressions that stay with us for a lifetime. In a dream, these can represent a physical or emotional situation that left a long term impact.

Horses in a dream represents physical and sexual power, virility. That wild, untamed sense of passion and desire that sweep us away. For those of you gasping in shock at the thought of Jesus being associated with such imagery, hold on!! The dreamer isn't having an immoral moment. Jesus is a common dream symbol not necessarily indicative of a God figure. Jesus commonly refers to achieving our own potential, an actualization of possibilities or attainment of desires or goals, no matter how difficult.

To combine these ideas into the one cohesive dream, perhaps the dreamer has recently entered a new relationship in which she feels passionately empowered and actualized. Or on the flipside, perhaps a past passionate circumstance left such an indelible mark that it is influencing her ability or willingness to risk pursuing that wild, untamed side in her present encounters.

Either way, the overriding themes here are to be aware of the long-term implications of attaining our potent, "wild side" passions.

Fire can represents passion or powerful emotion, often passion or anger, generally toward a relationship or vital aspect of your life—a hobby or career, for instance. As fire brings dramatic, sometimes frightening change, its presence in a dream can either convey the emotions themselves or a lack of control over them. As fire alters the very shape of things, dreaming of it can also indicate issues surrounding areas of change and transformation in your life.
